Dr. Mercola Probiotics Review

Dr. Mercola Probiotics are an overall solid probiotic with a high CFU count and numerous strains and even though I probably won’t be buying them ever again, I can still say good things about them, apart from the few things I didn’t like. Here’s my full review.

Dr. Mercola Probiotics Full Review & Opinion

Dr. Mercola Probiotic Ingredients

Dr. Mercola Probiotic contains 70 billion CFUs (healthy bacteria) coming from 10 different probiotic strains, these include:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus,
  • Bifidobacterium lactis,
  • Lactobacillus plantarum,
  • Lactobacillus casei,
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus,
  • Lactobacillus brevis,
  • Bifidobacterium longum,
  • Lactobacillus salivarius,
  • Streptococcus thermophilus,
  • Bifidobacterium bifidum

Let me cover and describe my 3 favorite strains from the list above.

The first one, as you might have guessed it is Lactobacillus acidophilus, my favorite. This strain has been shown to provide relief from gas, bloating and constipation, it also helps with vaginal infections and has the power to reverse IBS and UTI.

The second strain that I like is Lactobacillus rhamnosus, the reason I really like this strain is because of its detoxifying effects, it’s very good at removing bad bacteria from the body and by doing that it often provides relief from stress and thus decreases both stress and anxiety.

The third strain I like is Bifidobacterium bifidum, which is very beneficial at boosting the immune system and function, as well as balancing out the gut bacteria. It’s also great for providing relief from seasonal allergies.

Dr. Mercola Probiotic Recommended Dosage

The recommended dosage according to instructions on Dr. Mercola Probiotic packaging is 2 capsules daily, ideally before breakfast with some water.

Even though I’m not a big fan of taking multiple probiotic capsules, it was ok, since I was able to take them both at the same time.

Dr. Mercola Probiotic Benefits

I did feel quite good while taking the Dr. Mercola probiotics, my digestion was flawless just like when taking my regular probiotic.

Unfortunately my mind did get a bit cloudy and I didn’t experience the same energy levels that I do when I’m on my usual probiotic, which was a shame.

Dr. Mercola Probiotic Side Effects and Allergies

For the first few days I did experience some stomach ache, which was actually quite bad on day 2, but that’s to be expected when you suddenly switch probiotics.

Even though the side effects were quite bad and worse than usually, they did go away on day 4 and I’m glad that happened.

In terms of allergies, the Dr. Mercola probiotic is both gluten and soy free and also 100% vegetarian.

Unfortunately, the probiotic does need to be stored in the fridge, so the potency doesn’t drop. I’m also a bit disappointed that the CFU count is only guaranteed at the time of manufacture – which could mean that the actual CFU count could be DRASTICALLY lower than the label says. Overall, I was quite disappointed with that.

Mike says: I know these work because I use them as starter culture for my probiotic veggies and the veggies fizz within a day and taste good.”

JP says: I have been using probiotics for many years in hopes of becoming ‘regular’. Nothing has helped including this product. I gave it four stars because I like Mercola’s products because they’re good quality. I have since learned that drinking a small glass of Keifer daily has resolved my issue & saved me a lot of money.”

Dr. Mercola Probiotics Review

As mentioned in the first paragraph, my overall experience with the Dr. Mercola probiotic was quite good, as my digestion did get better, but my mind clarity and energy levels took a dive, which is something I wasn’t happy about.

In addition, the fact that this probiotic needs to be refrigerated to retain its potency is also a bummer for me, especially at the price point of $1 per serving.

Overall, while I do not DISLIKE this probiotic, I do believe that there are numerous better options out there, that will get you more results with fewer side effects.
